Need some help!! I served (FTG) on the Cecil 6May66 - 21Feb67. Desron 20 which include the Fox DD829,Norris DD859,Perry DD883 & Cecil DD835 left Newport, RI 4OCT66 for a Westpac-Viet Nam deployment.
I need records of the Cecil's actions in Viet Nam. I can find detailed info for the Fox, Norris & Perry but nothing on the Cecil. If anyone has any info that they can share with me I would be very grateful. I need it for A VA claim under the Blue Water Navy Act. I have been rated for asbestos exposure from the Cecil and now have developed CHD (cardiac heart disease. I need to prove I served in Viet Nam or within the 12 miles of shore line.
Old sailors make sure you get your lungs tested I was shocked for the cause of my breathing issues.
Thank you, Bill Wicoff

AS ANOTHER YEAR PASSES I LIKE TO REFLECT ON PASS YEARS. I WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE OFFICERS AND MEN THAT SERVED IN THE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT FOR MAKING MY TOUR SO ENJOYABLE AND MEANINGFUL. I DONOT THINK WITHOUT MY TOUR ON THE CECIL THAT I WOULD HAVE ACHIEVED MY GOALS IN THE NAVY. I WILL ALWAYS BE GRATEFULL FOR THE DEDICATION AND HARD WORK OF ALL MY R-DIV SHIPMATES. TO ALL A HAPPY NEW YEAR. ("MY SIMPLICITY WAS THE NATURALNESS OF ONE WHO HAD ACHEIVED ENOUGH TO BE MIMSELF" TJ) PS: THANKS TO XO CDR ENNIS FOR TRYING TO KEEP ME ON COARSE.
