Cecil Goes to Greece

The Cecil was stricken from the U.S. Navy's rolls of fighting ships on October 1, 1979 and subsequently sold to Greece as Apostolis D-216 on August 8,1980.

Steve Fisher {RD2 - Cecil Jan. '61 to Aug. '62} reports that the Cecil was in service with the Greek navy until 1993. At that time, she was scrapped by the Greeks. He didn't have the exact date that the Cecil was scrapped but will see if he can get the details for us.

NOTE: Recently, I contacted the Greece Embassy in Boston, MA and inquired about where the Apostolis is today. I also asked if they could send me information summarising the Cecil's history as a member of the Greek Navy in the 80's and early 90's. As of February 19,2003 I have received no replies.
